I have noticed that there are a lot of things we do that can be good for us, but can be offensive to other parts of the world. what are some you know?
My dad told me about something i should never do if i go to Britain. (he was there when he was in the NAVY) Here, when you finish a drink and tip the cup over and set it down, it is proving that you drank every last drop and you can tell by seeing no stains on the table. however, (going by what my dad told me, so im not sure if it is true) if you do that in Britain, it is showing disrespect to the Queen. (saying that lightly)

Its the thumbs up sign boss.It means kinda like a sexual insult in Greece.
Here, its taboo for male to ask to borrow lighters from females. Its like telling the woman she is a hooker.

No problem you three. Its true though,But most people dont really care about it anymore so it fine if its among friends, but not complete strangers.
Another one but this may be common.
Back in the Military,You should always take off your Beret under the shade when in Dress Uniform, its a huge sign of disrepect to wear berets under the shade over here.

Ah i remembered this one as well.Unconfirmed though, when we did joint exercises with the U.S army. When we went drinking together.I noticed the U.S soildiers spitting out the first sip on every newly opened bottle. Some also just poured out a little from every bottle before drinking.
Is this a custom or something in the U.S?

The locals think that whistling is a way of calling demons by a "Bomoh"[a shaman of some sort]

Asians has a lot of traditions and taboos so i know quite a few.
Here is another but you would know this one if you watched XXXholic anime.
Never cut or bite your fingernails at night. This holds true in Japan and south-east asia as well.

In Japan they believe that a Demon cutting monster will cut off your head while in parts of south east asia, they believe a witch would take your nail clippings and curse you.
I think in reality is it to make sure you dont accidentally cut your fingers because olden days nail clippers are like scissors and since its dark at night you might accidentally cut off your fingers.:hehee:
It just passed down through the ages by word of mouth and became taboo. This is my theory anyways.:D

Another one i just remembered, its taboo for a girl to sing in the bathroom or showers in a Malay Community.
I dont recall exactly why you cant do it but it seems the girl who does that will marry some sort of divorcee.

if you knock over salt, its bad luck, so to get rid of the bad luck, you throw a pinch of salt over your right sholder to keep the demon that causes bad luck to go away XD
