Hey all. Its been awhile since I posted a thread and I thought I would like do another fun one. Todays topic is on what many consider to be one of the best studios for bringing out anime. Almost everything they have done is gold and has some memorable moments in anime. The studio is obviously Gainax. Gainax has a huge following here and from the animes that they released they have a main theme of placing the fate of all things in the hands of a youth or a group of people. Other themes vary from show to show but a few have the theme of growing up and finding your place in the world. These are some great ideas to work into your over the top animes but theres one theme they do really well is Mechs. Of all the animes I have seen of theres, theres always a Mech or a robot in the show. Theres obviously Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Diebuster and Gunbuster, but theres also Fool Cooly, Abenboshi, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, Mahoromantic, Nadia...etc.
Now you probably think I'm nuts for not saying that Gundam is the king of Mech Animes, but I'm talking about quantity, I'm talking about quality. These animes of Gainax push the edge of what Mech animes say and do. Diebuster showed us an amazing mech anime in terms of SCOPE. Then along came Gurren Lagann which took all that SCOPE and multiplied it by a 1000. The themes of Gurren Lagann are so deep and complex that it does it really great. All those themes in Evangelion, which is an anime I will never watch, has WAY TOO MUCH GOING ON FOR IT.
While animes like Gurren Lagann and Evangelion are about giant mechs, they have animes that dedicate to the human size, yet equally destructive robots. The best known is Canti from Fool Cooly, but theres also Mahoro who is a female android. The smaller sized ones are typically part of the main cast, whereas the Mech suits are seen more or less as tools. In Fooly Cooly Canti does act as a bit of both, he's seen in the episodes as a helper but when he has to fight he fights on a mini-epic scale.
The one new theme Gainax is doing is over-the-top action. Diebuster and Gurren Lagann were very touching and amazing stories but the action is what set them apart from typical mech animes. Name another Mech anime where they fight using galaxies and create a big bang beam...exactly.lol.
What else........oh, while I know that Gainax has done other animes and hows, they seem best at handling mechs better than any other studio out there. Now I do like a few Gundam animes but they are a few and far in between, and they seem to be losing their steam as the years go on, they lost their luster once it became all emo and love centric. Like most of us, whenever Gainax releases something, we look with big eyes and await awesomeness. Thats all for now.lol. catch you all later. Aki87 OUT!!!!
